People on benefits who have an 'unused' second bedroom used by child/ren on access or shared
parenting visits - currently only the parent receiving the Child Benefit gets the full housing benefit for
their home. The other parent does not get housing benefit for the bedroom the child uses at their
home, ie has to pay 'bedroom tax' on it.

At Coast and Country housing association there is a Tenant Working Group on bedroom tax (one of
their core tenant panels). With support from Coast and Country this tenants group has taken a
bedroom tax appeal case to the Tribunal, and achieved a ruling that says the child of the family
actually resides at the home of each parent. So both parents should get full housing benefit.

This is a 'first tier' tribunal decision, so will no doubt be challenged. Still, progress.

Not that most Peabody parents who share parenting actually get a two bed flat, of course.

Read the blog about it, which is clearer.

https://speye.wordpress.com/2015/05/19/a-child-can-have-two-homes-for-bedroom-tax-purposes-stunning-appeal-win-by-a-landlord/

If this applies for benefits, why can't it apply for social housing requirements?
